In the Greco-Roman first century world into which Jesus was born the "pecking order" of social status was paramount in all of life. As Cicero said, "rank must be preserved". Where you sat in the pecking order of society was the most important thing to discover and defend. Jesus said, you know how the gentile leaders Lord it over those under them, "not so with you". Jesus utterly and completely turned the pecking order on it's head and told His disciples to descend into greatness and learn how to give their lives away in service. This message challenges us with Jesus' message and example of humble leadership. A way of leading which continues to transform the way we understand great leadership to this day and into the future.
