Sundays 9:30am & 6:00pm

Welcome to Northern Life

On this page you’ll find answers to a few common questions about what we believe, what happens at our church services, and the many ministries we have.

What does this church believe about Jesus Christ?

We believe Jesus is the Son of God, become man, who was born of a virgin to live a perfect life. We believe He died on a Roman cross for the sin of the world and rose from the dead three days later, just as He said He would. Ascended to Heaven, He is the ruler of the cosmos. We believe that Jesus sent His Spirit at Pentecost, and all those who put their faith in this Jesus as their Lord and Saviour have passed from death to life and enjoy a restored relationship with Father God. Every believer in Jesus is a new creation of grace and, filled with the Spirit of God, are guided, counselled and empowered to live a life of purpose for Jesus’ sake.

I want to find out about Jesus

That’s great! Please come along and let us know, we’ll be more than happy to help you do just that!

What should I wear?

Whatever you want! Seriously, there’s no dress code at Northern Life.

What happens in a morning church service?
Typically you walk in and get greeted at the door. Once you find a seat, our worship leader or pastor will open the service. People will stand and sing some songs of worship.  There will be a welcome and some announcements.  The children head out for age appropriate teaching and small group time.  Back in the service often there might be an interview with someone from our church community about a life experience.  Someone will lead us in prayer, someone will read from the bible, a talk will be given from the bible verses.  We sing some more and then finish with some fellowship around morning tea.
What happens at night church?

Night church has a more casual atmosphere. Pretty similar to the morning, the 6:00pm night service has contemporary worship songs, prayer, Bible reading, testimonies and a bible talk.  The only difference is that we have a break for supper in the middle of the service.

Will I be expected to say something?

No. Simply come and enjoy the service.

Will I be pressured to give money?
Not at all! Every week we take up an offering to support the work of the church, but there is no pressure at all to contribute.
What age are the congregations?

Our 9:30am morning congregation is a multigenerational spread from every decade. Our 6:00pm evening congregation tends to attract more youth and young adults – but everyone’s welcome!

Is there something for my kids?

Yes, we have a high quality children’s ministry with a paid staff member to look after their needs. NorthernLife Kids runs every Sunday during the school term.

Is there a youth group?

Yes, we have a dedicated team of youth leaders and a paid youth pastor to oversee the youth ministry and activities.

Switch Youth meet on Friday nights during the school term, as well as various bible studies throughout the week.

Can I join a midweek small group?

Yes! We have many different small groups (called Life Hubs) that meet throughout the week in people’s homes.

How long have you been a church?

Northern Life Baptist Church has been ministering in the Hornsby area of Sydney’s North Shore since 1903. That’s over 115 years—we’re in it for the long haul.
